Occasion: Lecture series of the Botanical Garden
Start: 22.02.2022 - 18:30
Location: Bohnenkamphaus, Helikoniensaal

About the speaker: Nikolai Friesen is the curator of the Botanical Garden Osnabrück

The lecture will be held in German.

Abstract of the talk: With more than 1000 species, the genus Allium (leek) is by far the most extensive genus of the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae). Results from almost 40 years of research provide insights into the evolution and phylogeny of the genus Allium based on the latest molecular genetic studies.

The discovery of new species, the emergence of cultivated plants and the breeding of new, ornamental varieties for use in the garden are vividly illustrated in the lecture.
