Über den Vortragenden: Prof. Peter Soba leitet die Arbeitsgruppe Neuronale Musterbildung und Konnektivität am LIMES Institut der Universität Bonn.

Inhalt des Vortrags: How the nervous system develops and maintains its function is a fundamental biological question. All of our sensory systems develop very early in life and remain functional throughout adulthood. How such neuronal networks are established and process incoming sensory information is not only highly relevant for understanding brain development and function, but also the basis of several neurological disorders.

Our work is focused on the somatosensory system of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, where we have identified neuronal network mechanisms required to encode escape responses towards different noxious stimuli. We aim to understand a) how these neuronal circuits work and allow robust generation of appropriate behaviors and b) how conserved molecular signals relevant for neurodevelopmental disorders control the integrity of these functional circuits during development.
