Über den Vortragenden: Prof. Dr. Simon Newstead forscht im Department of Biochemistry an der University of Oxford, UK

Inhalt des Vortrags: Transporters belonging to the Solute Carrier (SLC) family are integral membrane proteins that play essential roles in human physiology. They predominantly control the availability of metabolites and drugs within the body. More recently, SLC architectures have been discovered in proteins that act as trafficking receptors and intracellular signalling scaffolds the so-called ‘atypicals'. How SLC proteins accomplish these varied tasks is still unclear, yet underpins cell physiology. My talk will discuss how SLCs control nutrient and drug transport in response to changes in cellular ion homeostasis and how SLCs have used similar mechanisms to function as trafficking receptors and signalling systems within the cell.
