Über den Vortragenden: Prof. Dr. Ralf Rabus forscht am ICBM - Institut für Chemie und Biologie des Meeres der Universität Oldenburg.
The marine phytoplankton provides a major share in global primary production and is also responsible for "undesired" harmful algal blooms. Dinoflagellates are ancient and abundant phytoplankton members, however, the molecular basis of their physiology, adaptability, and cell biology are under-investigated and largely non-understood. The ubiquitous, free- living Prorocentrum cordatum serves as a promising dinoflagellate model. P. cordatum shows a striking cell biology, including a unique nucleus/genome, a single barrel-shaped chloroplast harbouring a photosystem megacomplex, and a single reticular mitochondrion. Systems biology- level investigations revealed an integrated, global response to heat stress.
